This is a conversation I recently heard that had me astounded.
Person A: "Did you hear about the Arab country, I don't remember which one, that is rounding up all the gays... the transexual, the uhh.. the lesbian, and all the .. uhh..."
Person B: "Faggots."
Person A: "umm.. they are rounding them up and killing them."
Person B: Burst out laughing. "Killing all the fags! Great!"
Person A: Sits there staring at person B
Person B: Still laughing. "I mean.. it's not like they are going to heaven. They are all going to hell anyway so..."
Person A: Looks away but doesn't say anything
Person B: "It says it right in the bible, they are going to hell. Corinthians or something, they are gonna burn. God doesn't care about them so whatever. I might not know exactly what verse but I know it's in the bible. Those dick suckers are gonna burn." Starts laughing and talking faster. "I mean, if they kill all the fags that's their... that's judging them but God already judged them."
Person A: Says something I couldn't hear.
Person B: "I mean God already says they are all going to hell. So whatever... they are just going to hell. God doesn't love them. I mean... I don't care what they do but, they are already judged. If a man wants to suck another mans cock, that's his business. I just don't... I mean.. they are just going to go to hell so.... It's not right... I'm not judging them, God has judged them. It says right there, if a man lays down with another man like a woman. I mean.. it says it right there.... They are going to hell anyway so...."
Person B looks around
Person B "God hates them and says they will go to hell along with all their friends. If you try to be friends with one you are going to hell.... it says that. I mean... You can do what you want to do but you are gonna go to hell. Fags are going to hell. Whatever...."
Person A gets up and walks out of the room leaving person B alone.
I sat there a long time after this conversation wanting to say something but realizing that trying to even address what was wrong with the attitude of Person B was futile. I never did find out what Person A was trying to say about the situation so I don't know how they feel. Person B seemed to find joy and glory in the thought others being killed. Whatever conversation Person A was trying to have was cut short by the sheer joy Person B felt at hearing "gays were being killed". The lengths this person went to in justification of their feelings is startling. By their logic, anyone they feel God has judged ceases to have meaning or rights. By their logic, it seems like even defending someone whom they have decreed judged by God is a sin and lands you in the same arena as those they have already condemned.
I chose not to say who these people were and I would rather they not identify themselves since they are both Facebook friends of mine and people I know personally. To think that someone I know and am close to would have the ability to find joy in the thought of others being killed makes me feel sick. To know that they use the bible to justify their thoughts makes me sad. The thought of them believing a large group of people are unworthy of life is frightening.
To me, this conversation shows how mentally ill Person B and people like them really are. For them, any group who they can justify as being "bad" loses all rights. Not only that, but anyone who defends them apparently gets thrown in the same category. This is the type of mentality which has brought us all the atrocities through the ages. This is the kind of thinking that should scare civilized people. This is the kind of thinking that should land someone in a mental health examination.
Sadly, the above Person B will continue to think the way they do. The person will continue to hold hatred in their heart. The person will continue to use their own prejudices and hatred to justify their joy at other's expense. Sometimes I wish there were mental hygiene laws where people like that could get help for their sickness. The sad truth is that it's not a true sickness of the mind but a sickness of the soul. By professing such joy in the killing of those they claim God has judged, they show their truly corrupted hearts. The sole, overriding commandment that Jesus gave to us is simply to "love one another." Person B above has shown they are either unwilling or unable to do as Jesus commanded us. The irony was not lost on me but I doubt they could ever see it.
